Fire ant awareness · Mainland China
Watch for fire ants underfoot
Help protect the green spaces around you
What should you do if you come across a suspicious nest while walking, taking your dog or children outside, or working in fields and green spaces? Start with a few practical steps, from keeping a safe distance to contacting local site managers.

FIRE RANT’s publicly described pilot is in South East Queensland, Australia. This page offers safety information and a collaboration contact for readers in mainland China. Service availability and launch plans for mainland China have not been confirmed.
Safety first
Keep clear, then contact local people.
You do not need to identify the ant species first. If you notice something suspicious, prioritise your safety and the safety of those around you.
01
Keep your distance
Avoid the suspected nest and move children and pets away. Do not step on, dig into or poke it, and do not approach it for a close-up photograph.Safety reference
02
Record what you noticed
From a safe position, note the time and nearby landmarks. Take a photograph of the surroundings only if it is safe. There is no need to catch ants or collect samples. Describe the sighting as “suspected” when contacting local personnel.
03
Contact the local site manager or authority
You can first contact the property manager, park or site operator, or approach the local agriculture and rural affairs department or another responsible authority. Follow the channels and requirements published for your location.Local contact reference
This page does not accept nest-location reports from mainland China or provide on-site identification or pest-control dispatch. If you find a possible nest, contact local personnel first.
Everyday settings
Bring awareness to the places you pass each day.
01
Residents and families
Keep an eye on residential green spaces, your usual walking routes and the outdoor places children visit. Find out how to contact the site manager. If you see a suspected nest, remind those with you to go around it.
02
Property, landscaping and site management
Clarify in advance who receives residents’ observations, who contacts professionals and who explains next steps to residents. Awareness messages and clear contact details are useful preparations you can make now.
03
Growers, nurseries and construction teams
Moving plants with soil, turf and similar materials can carry red imported fire ants. When purchasing or moving these materials or carrying out earthworks, check the applicable quarantine and control requirements with the local authority.Movement guidance reference
About the project
Meet FIRE RANT.
FIRE RANT is a fire ant monitoring project centred on public participation. Its publicly described work currently focuses on a pilot in South East Queensland, Australia.
We focus on a practical question: how can we help people record suspected sightings more clearly, so professionals have useful evidence to review?
For mainland China, we would first like to understand local needs: how residents receive safety advice, how site managers receive observations, and how public participation can fit into existing local processes.
The Australian pilot does not mean a service has launched in mainland China. The scope of any collaboration, technical suitability, data handling and each party’s responsibilities would need to be confirmed through further discussion.
Collaboration
Start with your setting.
If you work in property management or landscape maintenance, agriculture or pest control, research, or community education, we welcome a discussion of the problems you face and your ideas for collaboration.
Start with your city, organisation or team, the setting you work in and the questions you would like to discuss. There is no need to include a precise home address, personal location, children’s information or unauthorised site materials in an initial email.
This email address is for project and collaboration enquiries. It is not a local pest reporting or emergency medical channel.
Frequently asked questions
Important questions, answered clearly.
Can I download or use FIRE RANT in mainland China?
App distribution, access conditions and service support in mainland China have not been confirmed. This page currently provides no mainland-China app download, location-reporting or pest-control service entry point.
Who should I contact about a suspicious nest in a residential area or park?
Keep clear and contact local site managers as described under “Safety first” above. Follow the locally published process to find out which organisation receives reports and what information it needs. The collaboration email does not handle local on-site responses.
Do red ants or a small soil mound prove that it is a red imported fire ant nest?
No. Colour or the appearance of a mound alone is not enough. Treat your observation as a suspected sighting for a professional to assess. Do not disturb the nest to check.Identification reference
Can identification results from the Australian pilot be used directly in mainland China?
They cannot be used to confirm a local ant species or determine a response plan. Any use in mainland China would require separate validation in local conditions and clear processes for human review and follow-up action. This page makes no promise about local identification accuracy.
Can the map show fire ants near me?
The site map summarises publicly reported red imported fire ant distribution status across countries and territories and links to official information. It is not a live location tool and cannot establish whether fire ants are present at a particular place in mainland China. Check information published by the responsible local authority for local conditions.
What should I do after a suspected fire ant sting?
First move away from the nest. You can wash the affected area with water or soapy water and use a cold compress to ease discomfort. Avoid scratching or breaking blisters.General care reference
If you have difficulty breathing, a widespread rash, marked dizziness or altered consciousness, call 120 immediately or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not wait for a reply from the platform.Emergency care reference
Can I buy pesticides or book pest control here?
This page does not offer pesticide sales, delivery or pest-control bookings in mainland China. Consult local professionals about appropriate control methods. Do not copy pesticide-use practices from other countries.
Do I need to upload photos or a precise location before discussing collaboration?
No. An initial discussion can start with your city and setting. Until the service scope, privacy information and data recipients are clear, please do not submit personal location data, home addresses or site images containing personal information to this platform.
This page provides general awareness information. It does not replace professional identification, medical diagnosis or treatment, or the control requirements of the responsible local authority.
