火蚁 (Red Imported Fire Ants) can be distinguished from native species by several key features. RIFA workers range from 2–6mm in length and vary in size within the same colony — a hallmark of polymorphic species.
Key identification markers:
- Copper-brown head and darker abdomen
- Multiple worker sizes (2–6mm) in one nest
- Dome-shaped mound with no visible entry hole
- Aggressive swarming when nest is disturbed
- Painful sting producing white pustule after 24hrs
